I have helped students graduate from high school using unique programming innovations (for example, using online courses or recover course credits). Education Consultant (Programs & Innovations)

Professor Kidan & Company

2016-Present

I partner with administrators, entrepreneurs, authors and others in business to develop educational programs. I develop professional development, training and course content in a variety of areas.  In the recent past, I contracted with a national award winning education company to develop courses for over 26 universities across the United States.  This allowed me insight into national educational strategies and perspectives.  Lastly, I consult and provide advice and large scale program management strategies for educational companies, community programs and schools.

Online Learning Specialist/Faculty

Governors State University

2016-2018

As an online instruction specialist, I worked as a faculty coach and developer in online instructional techniques and design. I also supported programs and operations for the university as consultant for curriculum and program development.

The Center for Online Teaching and Learning (COTL)  was responsible for working with faculty who design and teach online courses. My work was primarily to manage large and small scale course development, and to train faculty and staff in online teaching through workshop development and one-on-one instruction.

Additionally, we assisted instructors in the development and delivery of online and web-enhanced courses; provided expertise and guidance in a wide variety of instructional technology applications; taught courses in the online course certificate program, and assisted in the support of an online learning management system (currently BB9.1).

Program Manager

Chicago Public Schools

2010-2016

At Chicago Public Schools, I was responsible for the creation of all virtual learning programming for 100+ high schools within the Chicago Public Schools District (CPSD) for five years. In the course of my duties, I custom designed and then scaled a program to offer classes to middle school and  high school students. I recruited and vetted online learning vendors through a competitive RFP process, managing teams of subject area experts in tailoring vendor packages to suit needs of student populations. I also developed protocols for online course review to ensure the highest level of instruction, academic standards, policies, and processes. I partnered with museums and NBC 5 to create learning experiences outside of the classroom. And, I  collaborated with the Chicago Board of Education President and the Department of Teaching and Learning to implement specialized learning programs. Finally, I kept track of a multi-million dollar budget, established performance objectives and conducted performance evaluations for direct reports.  The impact and experience were immeasurable and the project management skills have guided my career.

Education

What I’ve Learned

Home: Education

EdD Concordia University

My degree is in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration. My research focused on examining the perspectives of advanced online teaching faculty to determine their professional development experience and needs, through observation, surveys and interviews.  My ongoing research interests are around the intersections between teaching pedagogy and the use of technology and data to drive decisions in education.

M.S. Instructional Design and Technology

The instructional design and technology program at Georgia State University taught practical skills for including technology in curriculum for K-12. For a practicum, I developed online learning modules for a Fortune 500 company to better understand corporate e-learning.

M.B.A. Marketing

The Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing required courses in finance, accounting and economics.  The Marketing specialization offered courses in social media and emarketing.

Teaching and Training

I have worked to train adults in various subject areas for over 8 years. From teachers and counselors to university faculty and administrators, I have trained on program strategies, learning management systems and user experience in various areas of education, business and technology. I also love to teach. Over the last few years, I have taught courses in education and technology. I have a special place in my heart for transitioning students (8th graders, high school seniors, college freshman, college seniors).  There is a measurable impact that can be made when you make an effort to impact student outcomes.

Project Management, Assessment & Curriculum Development

I appreciate the opportunity to develop objectives and outcomes, then create workshops, teach courses and develop new ways of reaching learners. I partner with experts to "educatize" their expertise. All of the projects I work on require creating timelines, managing milestones and effective project management.  I firmly believe in using technology to help maintain organization and to  create a "world stage" for learning.
